
Kupwara, July 19: The District Administration Kupwara has issued a weather advisory following the forecast of inclement weather by the Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, for July 19 to 23, urging residents and visitors to exercise caution.
As per the advisory issued by the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Kupwara, people living in or travelling through vulnerable areas, including Keran, Karnah, Machil, Budnambal, Jumugund, Nowgam and Kumkadi, have been advised to avoid landslide-prone areas, flash flood zones and other locations exposed to weather-related risks until conditions improve.
Residents living near rivers, nallahs and hilly slopes have also been asked to remain alert and avoid unnecessary movement in vulnerable areas during the advisory period.
Tourists, travellers and transporters have been advised to check road conditions before travelling towards the district's hilly areas, as heavy rainfall may trigger landslides, road blockages and traffic disruptions.
The Deputy Commissioner has directed all concerned district and sectoral officers, including officials from PHE, Jal Shakti, R&B, Mechanical Engineering, Revenue, KPDCL, BEACON, PMGSY and municipal bodies, to remain prepared and maintain close coordination with SDMs, Tehsildars and SHOs for a prompt response to emergencies.
The administration said the District Emergency Operation Centre, Police Control Rooms in Kupwara and Handwara, and the ERSS-112 service remain available for public assistance during emergencies
