One person was killed and five others sustained injuries after an Alto car met with an accident at Aramdaka in the Mangit area of Khari tehsil in Ramban district on Sunday morning.

Officials said the mishap occurred around 8:15 am when the vehicle was travelling from Mangit to Banihal. Soon after the accident, volunteers of NGO Banihal and the Quick Response Team (QRT) Khari launched a joint rescue operation and evacuated the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The deceased has been identified as Ghulam Mohammad Lone (50), son of Ali Mohammad Lone.

The injured include Mohammad Ishaq (28), son of Abdul Rehman Khanday; Mohammad Rafiq (31), son of Abdul Rashid; Nawaz Ahmad (33), son of Abdul Ahad; Zaba Begum (45), wife of Abdul Ahad; and Hamad (9), son of Nawaz Ahmad.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident, while the cause of the accident is being investigated.
