
Srinagar, October 7: The annual Urs celebrations of Hazrat Sheikh Nooruddin Noorani (RA), popularly known as Sheikh-ul-Aalam and Alamdar-e-Kashmir, commenced at his revered shrine in Charar-i-Sharief, Budgam, on Wednesday with the traditional Poshak Bandi ceremony.
The sacred ritual, involving the changing of the cloth covering the blessed grave of the revered Sufi saint, was performed amid religious fervour and devotion. A large number of devotees gathered at the shrine to witness the ceremony and offer prayers.
Sheikh Nooruddin Noorani (RA), also known as Nund Rishi, holds a prominent place in Kashmir's spiritual and cultural history. His teachings, poetry and emphasis on peace, compassion and spiritual values have continued to influence generations across the region.
The annual Urs attracts thousands of devotees from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir, who travel to Charar-i-Sharief to pay their respects and seek blessings at the shrine.
The district administration has put in place arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Urs and management of the expected rush of visitors. The concerned departments have been directed to maintain uninterrupted electricity and water supply and ensure adequate transportation facilities for devotees.
Security arrangements have also been strengthened in Charar-i-Sharief and surrounding areas to regulate the movement of pilgrims and facilitate the peaceful observance of the annual Urs.
