
Srinagar, Oct 7: Several parts of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed rain and hailstorms as the weather turned unsettled, while fresh snowfall was reported from higher reaches of Kashmir, including Gulmarg and the Zojila region.
Rajouri district experienced a spell of heavy hailstorm on Tuesday night, with hailstones accumulating on roads and open areas amid a deterioration in weather conditions.
Fresh snowfall was also recorded in the upper reaches of Kashmir, particularly in the Afarwat-Gulmarg belt and towards Zojila. Meanwhile, rain and drizzle were reported in lower-lying areas.
The Meteorological Centre has forecast intermittent rain and showers at some places, along with the possibility of thunderstorms and gusty winds during the ongoing weather spell. Unsettled conditions are likely to continue over the next few days, with precipitation expected in parts of J&K.
In view of the forecast, farmers have been advised to ensure safe storage of harvested apple and paddy crops from October 8 to 10, when rain and gusty winds are possible.
So far, there have been no official reports of major weather-related damage or widespread disruption.
