Srinagar, Oct 30: The number of cases involving underage drivers on major roads in Srinagar has reduced noticeably this year, but the practice remains prevalent in the outskirts, Deputy Superintendent of Police Traffic Mehboob Ul Haq said.
He urged parents to take responsibility for preventing their children from driving vehicles before attaining the legally prescribed age.
Highlighting other traffic-related concerns, Haq said violations such as illegal parking and driving against designated lanes continue to affect traffic management in Srinagar's city centre.
He emphasised the need for greater public awareness regarding traffic regulations, particularly lane discipline and responsible road behaviour.
The officer further noted that frequent violations contribute to traffic congestion and said strict adherence to road safety rules could help ensure smoother movement of vehicles across the city.
He added that although underage driving has reduced on main roads, its continuation in peripheral areas calls for increased parental vigilance and public awareness.
