Srinagar, September 29: National Conference Chief Spokesperson and MLA Tanveer Sadiq on Tuesday raised concerns over alleged bureaucratic interference in the functioning of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, saying the episode highlights the need for restoration of statehood.
In a post on X, Sadiq said the incident itself explains why Jammu and Kashmir requires statehood to be restored.
He questioned the reported move by senior bureaucrats to approach Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather against a resolution introduced by elected Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, allegedly without the knowledge of the concerned minister.
Sadiq said the issue was not about any particular government or political party, but about determining who remains accountable to the people.
His comments followed reports that a senior bureaucrat had written to the Assembly Speaker seeking to prevent the statehood resolution moved by Omar Abdullah from being taken up in the House.
