Srinagar, September 9: Spanish filmmaker and producer Anna Saura has identified Kashmir as a location with significant potential for international film productions, citing its distinctive landscapes, natural beauty and favourable filming conditions.

Saura made the remarks while speaking to reporters during the International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir (IFFJK) in Srinagar. The festival is being held at the SKICC and has brought together filmmakers, artists and cinema enthusiasts from different parts of the world.

During her first visit to Kashmir, Saura said the region possesses several qualities that could attract international filmmakers. She pointed to its lakes, mountains, landscapes and natural light as features that can provide diverse settings for film projects.

She also called for stronger coordination between the authorities and the film industry to make it easier for international production houses to consider Kashmir for shooting. According to her, greater institutional support could encourage filmmakers from other countries to explore the region.

Discussing the possibility of India-Spain collaborations, Saura said filmmakers from the two countries have considerable scope for working together. She suggested that future joint projects could involve talent from both film industries, including Indian actors.

Saura welcomed the launch of the first IFFJK, saying such festivals can help connect filmmakers across borders and create opportunities for cultural and creative exchange. She expressed hope that the festival would develop into a regular platform for international cinema in Jammu and Kashmir.

The filmmaker also spoke positively about her experience in Kashmir, particularly the hospitality she received during her visit, and said she would like to return to the region.

Saura has worked as a filmmaker and producer in Spain and has been associated with several cinema projects. She is also the daughter of renowned Spanish filmmaker Carlos Saura.
