SRINAGAR, January 26: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir marked India’s 77th Republic Day today with vibrant patriotic displays and a forward-looking commitment to national development.
The main ceremony, held at the Shalimar campus, featured the unfurling of the National Flag by Vice Chancellor Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, who was joined by university faculty, staff, and students. Deans and officers of the university also held flag hoisting ceremonies at various faculties, research stations and KVKs.
Prof Ganai used the occasion to bridge the university's academic mission with national aspirations, emphasizing several key themes:
Vice Chancellor called for Kashmir to serve as a model for a developed ("Viksit") state, noting that educational institutions are the primary engines for this regional transformation.
He reflected on the significance of the Indian Constitution, highlighting its 448 Articles and the Preamble that defines the nation as a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic.
In a major announcement, Prof Ganai revealed that SKUAST-K has secured 110 patents related to startups and innovations. This achievement underscores the university’s role in modernizing agriculture and contributing to the nation’s intellectual capital.
Earlier in the program, Prof SA Gangoo, Dean Students Welfare (DSW), reminded the gathering of the historic adoption of the Constitution, setting a tone of reflection on the rights and responsibilities of every citizen.
The Vice-Chancellor concluded by urging the university community to work collectively, stating that building a "knowledgeable and disciplined society" is a responsibility shared by every individual within the institution.
