Srinagar, October 5: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday addressed the 60th Annual Diamond Jubilee Convention of the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (ISAE) at SKUAST-Kashmir, Shalimar.
The three-day event, being held from October 5 to 7, is centred on women-driven engineering innovations in smart farming, along with the use of artificial intelligence and robotics in agriculture for the younger generation. An international symposium on smart farming is also being held as part of the convention.
In his address, the Lieutenant Governor said the focus of the convention reflects the changing priorities of agriculture, with the goal of moving beyond food security and positioning India as a global leader in agricultural innovation.
He emphasised the significant contribution of women to agriculture and allied sectors, stating that their greater involvement in technology and innovation can play a key role in creating a sustainable and modern farming ecosystem.
Sinha also called for concerted efforts to ensure that small and marginal farmers have access to emerging technologies such as AI and robotics. According to him, wider adoption of such tools can make farming more productive, sustainable and profitable while attracting the younger generation to agriculture.
He highlighted the progress made by Jammu and Kashmir in the development of the agriculture sector and said SKUAST-Kashmir has established itself as an important centre for agricultural research, innovation and technological advancement.
The convention is being attended by the university's Vice Chancellor, ISAE representatives, scientists, researchers, students and farmers from different parts of the country.
