
J&K Sees Heavy Rainfall, MeT Warns of Intense Showers, Flash Floods
Srinagar, Aug 11: Jammu and Kashmir received significant rainfall over the past 24 hours, with Kathua KVK recording the highest rainfall of 156 mm, followed by Jammu at 79 mm, Katra at 71 mm and Samba at 55 mm, the Meteorological Department said.
The MeT Centre Srinagar said light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places on August 11 and 12. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in a few districts of the Jammu division, while brief intense showers may occur in some parts of Kashmir during the forenoon and afternoon hours on August 12.
From August 13 to 16, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places, with brief intense showers possible at a few locations. Between August 17 and 19, several spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected, along with the possibility of heavy rain and brief intense showers in some districts during the early morning and afternoon hours.
Scattered light rain and thundershowers may continue between August 20 and 22.
The MeT has warned of heavy rain and brief intense showers in a few districts during August 11 to 12 and August 17 to 19. One or two districts of Jammu division may also receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The department cautioned that torrential rainfall and brief intense showers could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas.
People, tourists and transporters have been advised to remain alert and follow advisories issued by the local administration.
