Jammu, July 23: The Jammu Srinagar National Highway has been partially reopened for traffic, with authorities allowing the movement of Light Motor Vehicles, LMVs, towards Srinagar after road conditions improved.

Traffic officials said LMVs were permitted to move from Jakhani in Udhampur towards Srinagar after restoration work made the highway partially motorable.

Officials said traffic movement remains regulated and urged commuters to follow the instructions of traffic police and adhere to official advisories while travelling on the highway.

The strategic highway, which serves as the only all weather road link between Kashmir and the rest of the country, was disrupted due to heavy rainfall and landslides at multiple vulnerable locations.

Restoration work is still underway at affected stretches. Authorities said a decision on allowing the movement of other categories of vehicles will be taken depending on the prevailing road and weather conditions.
