Srinagar, July 23: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has filed a charge sheet against four individuals in connection with an alleged cheating case involving the supply of high-value shawls worth over ₹2.50 crore.

The charge sheet was presented before the Court of the Sub Judge Small Causes, Srinagar, in FIR No. 55/2022 registered under Sections 420, 120-B, and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).

According to the Crime Branch, the accused have been identified as Arshid Ahmad Shora alias Bilal of Pakhribal Botakadal, Lalbazar; Firdous Ahmad Mir of Abikarpora, Rainawari, presently residing at Mallabagh; Firdous Ahmad Bhat of Amda Kadal, Lalbazar; and Aftab Ahmad Shah of Khawabazar, Nowhatta, all residents of Srinagar.

The case stems from a complaint alleging that the accused, reportedly led by Arshid Ahmad Shora alias Bilal, persuaded the complainant to supply shawls worth more than ₹2.50 crore by promising profitable returns. However, after receiving the consignments, they allegedly failed to make the agreed payments.

During the investigation, the Economic Offences Wing recovered 338 shawls valued at around ₹68 lakh. The recovered shawls were later handed over to the complainant in accordance with the directions of the competent court.

After completing the investigation, the Crime Branch stated that sufficient evidence had been gathered to prosecute the accused and subsequently filed the charge sheet before the court for further judicial proceedings
