Heavy Rainfall Alert Issued for Jammu & Kashmir; Flood Risk Increases Over Next 48 Hours

July 21, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Srinagar, July 21: A strengthening weather system is expected to bring widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall across Jammu & Kashmir over the next 48 hours, raising concerns over flooding, waterlogging, and landslides across several parts of the Union Territory.

According to Kashmir Weather Forecast, the weather system will gradually intensify through the evening, resulting in prolonged periods of intense rainfall. Authorities and residents have been advised to closely monitor the evolving weather situation.

The continuous downpour is expected to cause a significant rise in the water levels of the Jhelum River, its tributaries, and several other streams across the Kashmir Valley. Low-lying areas are likely to witness waterlogging, while flood-prone and hilly regions may face an increased risk of flash floods, landslides, and river overflow.

In the Jammu region, rivers and streams are also expected to swell considerably, with some areas potentially experiencing flood-like conditions by Wednesday morning if the rainfall persists.

Residents are urged to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from rivers, streams, and landslide-prone areas until weather conditions improve. People living in vulnerable locations are advised to remain alert and follow updates issued by weather agencies and local authorities.

The situation will continue to be monitored as the weather system evolves over the coming hours.
