Srinagar, October 1: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Crime Branch Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet against a Pulwama resident in a case involving an allegedly forged government communication carrying a fabricated signature of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

The chargesheet has been filed in FIR No. 29/2026 under Sections 204, 319(2), 336(2) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) before the Court of Sub-Judge, Srinagar, against Saqlain Mushtaq Dar, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, a resident of Deeri, Pulwama.

The case pertains to a letter purportedly addressed to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Anantnag. The accused allegedly impersonated the Lieutenant Governor by using fabricated official letterhead and a forged signature. The communication was allegedly prepared with the intention of influencing the functioning of the Anantnag Police administration.

The EOW said its investigation established the allegations on the basis of evidence collected during the probe. The case was consequently marked as “proved”, and the chargesheet was submitted before the court for further judicial proceedings.

The Crime Branch has advised people to exercise caution when receiving communications purportedly issued by senior government officials or public authorities. It urged citizens to verify the authenticity of suspicious letters, official documents, letterheads and signatures.

The EOW also asked the public to report suspected cases of impersonation or document forgery to the concerned authorities. Complaints can be brought to the notice of SSP EOW Srinagar, Abdul Waheed Shah, or sent through the department’s official email.
