August 13, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Moreh, Aug 12: The Assam Rifles organised an Ex-Servicemen Interaction at Moreh in Tengnoupal district on August 11, bringing together veterans to discuss their welfare and security preparedness ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.

The interaction provided an opportunity for Assam Rifles personnel to engage with former servicemen, acknowledge their contributions and discuss issues concerning veterans' welfare, support and security-related preparedness in the border region.
A special highlight of the programme was the honouring of 104-year-old World War II veteran Rifleman Shatri Dhan Thapa of 4 Assam Rifles. His decades-long association with the force and his service during a defining period in history were remembered with gratitude and respect.
The Assam Rifles recognised Thapa's long life of service and sacrifice as an enduring source of inspiration for successive generations of personnel and young people.
The interaction also underscored the continuing bond between serving personnel and veterans, whose experience, memories and contributions remain an important part of the force's institutional legacy.
Ahead of Independence Day, the programme carried a message of remembrance and gratitude towards those who served the nation in earlier generations. It also highlighted the Assam Rifles' commitment to maintaining engagement with its veteran community and addressing their welfare concerns.
The event concluded with a tribute to the courage and dedication of former servicemen, with the force reaffirming the spirit of honouring those who served before, preserving their legacy and saluting their service.
