Spear Corps vaccinates 678 at Nagaland School

August 18, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Kohima, Aug 17: A medical team of the Spear Corps conducted a mass immunisation drive against meningococcal meningitis at Sainik School Punglwa in Nagaland, vaccinating 678 students and staff as part of a preventive healthcare initiative.
The campaign was organised to strengthen protection against meningococcal meningitis and promote health awareness among the school community. The medical team also conducted health screening of students and staff before administering the vaccines.
Alongside immunisation, the initiative included medical counselling and post-vaccination monitoring, ensuring that beneficiaries were observed for any immediate reactions following vaccination.
According to the Spear Corps, no adverse reactions were reported during the monitoring period, and the drive was completed smoothly.
The medical team also interacted with students and staff, providing guidance on preventive healthcare, personal hygiene and the importance of timely medical attention in case of symptoms associated with infectious diseases.
Meningococcal meningitis is a serious bacterial infection that can cause inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Preventive vaccination is an important tool in reducing the risk of outbreaks, particularly in settings where large numbers of young people live, study or interact closely.
The initiative reflects the armed forces' continued emphasis on community outreach and preventive healthcare, particularly in remote and strategically important regions of the Northeast.
The successful immunisation of hundreds of students and staff at Sainik School Punglwa is expected to contribute to a safer and healthier school environment while reinforcing awareness about the importance of vaccination and early disease prevention.
