Rain, Thunderstorms to Hit J&K From Today

Srinagar, Oct 6: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience a shift in weather from Tuesday, with rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected at several locations over the next few days.

 

According to the latest weather forecast, widespread rainfall is likely across the Union Territory on October 6, while scattered showers are expected on October 7 and 8. Another spell of widespread rain has been forecast for October 9, followed by isolated rainfall on October 10 and 11.

 

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds may occur during this period. The weather department has issued warnings for thunderstorms, lightning and squally winds from October 6 to 10. No weather warning has been issued for October 11 and 12.

 

The forecast follows a spell of unusually warm weather in the region. On October 5, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 30.8°C, while Jammu touched 33°C. Qazigund recorded 31°C, Kupwara 31.6°C and Kokernag 30.4°C.

 

On October 6, minimum temperatures remained relatively mild, with Srinagar recording 14°C, Pahalgam 7.8°C and Gulmarg 9.4°C. Jammu recorded a minimum of 23.6°C.

 

The approaching weather system is expected to bring some relief from the recent warm conditions. People, particularly motorists and those travelling to higher reaches, have been advised to remain cautious and keep track of weather updates during thunderstorms and gusty winds.
