
Jammu, May 12: An awareness lecture on the implementation of the POSH Act, 2013 and UGC Regulations, 2015 was organised today at GGM Science College, Jammu by the Sexual Harassment Probe Committee, High Court of J&K and Ladakh (Jammu Wing), in collaboration with the Apex Body of SPARSH, Cluster University of Jammu.
The programme was held under the guidance of Justice Sindhu Sharma, Chairperson of the Sexual Harassment Probe Committee, and patronage of Prof. K.S. Chandrasekar, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu. It aimed at sensitising participants about legal provisions for prevention, prohibition, and redressal of sexual harassment in workplaces and educational institutions.
Registrar Cluster University of Jammu, Ankur Mahajan, attended as Chief Guest and stressed the importance of creating a safe, gender-sensitive academic environment. She underlined the need for strict implementation of the POSH Act, 2013 and UGC Regulations, 2015 to ensure dignity, equality, and protection for women in institutions.
The session was presided over and coordinated by Dr. Vandana Khajuria, Chairperson, Apex Body of SPARSH, who highlighted the importance of continuous sensitisation to strengthen awareness and institutional accountability.
The keynote address was delivered by Sonia Gupta, Special Judge, Anti Corruption, Jammu, who explained key provisions of the POSH Act, including the role of Internal Committees, inquiry procedures, confidentiality norms, and institutional responsibilities. She also discussed relevant judicial interpretations and challenges in implementation.
Participants including faculty members, students, and administrative officers actively engaged in the interactive session, raising queries on complaint mechanisms, safeguards against victimisation, and procedural fairness, which were addressed in detail.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming the commitment of organisers to strengthen awareness and ensure strict compliance with POSH and UGC guidelines.
The Secretary, High Court Legal Services Committee, Jammu, also participated and highlighted the importance of gender sensitisation and the role of legal services in providing support to aggrieved persons
