
Srinagar, Aug 11: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness widespread rainfall and thundershowers over the next few days with heavy to very heavy rain forecast in some districts of the Jammu region and intense showers in parts of Kashmir, the Meteorological department said.
“According to the latest weather forecast, few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at most places across Jammu and Kashmir from August 9 to 11, with the peak activity likely on August 11,” a MeT official said.
He said heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at a few places in the Jammu region while brief spells of intense heavy showers are expected at a few districts of the Kashmir.
The MeT has also warned of the possibility of heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers in a few districts during the period, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at one or two places on the night of August 11.
It said torrential rain and brief intense heavy showers may trigger flash floods and landslides at vulnerable locations besides causing waterlogging in low-lying areas.
“From August 12 to 16, light rain and thundershowers are likely at many places, with brief intense showers possible at a few locations,” the MeT said.
Fresh spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places from August 17 to 19, accompanied by brief intense heavy showers at a few places.
Authorities have been advised to remain alert in view of the possibility of flash floods, landslides and waterlogging during periods of intense rainfall.
