The University of Kashmir (KU) expresses profound grief and sorrow over the untimely demise of Ms. Sama Parveen, a promising student of M.Sc. Applied Geology, 3rd Semester, Department of Geology KU.
Ms. Sama Parveen passed away on March 3, 2026 at Gitanjali Medical College and Hospital, Udaipur, Rajasthan
The deceased student was on a geological field visit to Rajasthan.
Expressing her deep anguish over the sad and untimely demise, Vice Chancellor KU Prof. Nilofer Khan, conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
In her condolence message, the Vice Chancellor said, “Ms. Sama Parveen was a sincere, hardworking and committed student whose loss is deeply felt by the entire University community. I extend my heartfelt sympathies to her family and pray that Almighty Allah grants them patience and strength to bear this irreparable loss."
The Vice Chancellor further said that the University stands in solidarity with the family during this moment of profound grief and sorrow.
Registrar, KU Prof. Naseer Iqbal, also expressed deep shock and grief over the demise of the young student. He conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Dean, School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Head Dept of Geology KU Prof Ghulam Jeelani expressed his deep condolences, remembering Ms. Sama Parveen as a humble and dedicated student who was held in high esteem by her teachers and fellow students.
He added that the department has lost a bright student whose commitment to her studies will always be remembered.
A condolence meeting was also held at the Department of Geology, wherein faculty members, scholars and students paid rich tributes to the departed soul and observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect.
