
Srinagar, October 9: Dr Manzoor Ahmad Mir, a breast cancer researcher at the University of Kashmir, has been recognised among the world’s top two per cent of scientists associated with Stanford University, USA, for the fourth consecutive year.
According to a press release issued on Thursday, Dr Mir has featured in the Health Sciences category for 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026, bringing international recognition to research work emerging from Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr Mir serves in the Department of Bioresources at the University of Kashmir and is also an adjunct professor at the Indian Institute of Sustainability, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad.
His research primarily focuses on breast cancer drug repurposing, the molecular mechanisms responsible for cancer development and progression, metastasis and drug resistance. His work aims to improve understanding of cancer biology and explore potential treatment strategies through interdisciplinary research.
According to the press release, Dr Mir has published more than 100 research papers, with a cumulative journal impact factor exceeding 750. He has an h-index of 40 and an i10-index of 118, while his publications have received more than 4,900 citations over the past five years.
Apart from his research contributions, he has authored 22 books and 85 book chapters published by international publishing houses, including Elsevier, Taylor & Francis and Springer Nature.
He has also developed four online courses for the SWAYAM platform covering Immunology, Endocrinology, Human Genetics and Human Population Genetics. These courses have reportedly reached more than 20,000 students worldwide over the past seven years.
Dr Mir completed his PhD through Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and the CSIR-Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh. He holds a master’s degree in Life Sciences, which he completed with a gold medal, and has qualified the CSIR Junior Research Fellowship and National Eligibility Test four times.
His professional recognitions include the Best Cancer Researcher Award at Kashmir Expo-2022, presented by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, and the Teacher Associateship Research Excellence Award conferred by the Science and Engineering Research Board in 2019. In 2026, he received the Breast Cancer Awareness and Care Excellence Award at the seventh Cancer Summit Awards in New Delhi.
The press release further stated that Dr Mir has completed six externally funded research projects and is currently leading two projects supported by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation under the Department of Science and Technology.
His academic contributions include supervising eight PhD scholars, with five doctoral researchers currently working under his guidance. He has also mentored 60 postgraduate students through their research dissertations and participated in science outreach programmes, academic conferences and research training initiatives.
Dr Mir served as coordinator and head of the Department of Bioresources from 2019 to 2025. He was also the first nodal officer and coordinator of the Kupwara University Campus.
In addition, he is associated with several international scientific organisations, including the American Association for Cancer Research and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
His fourth consecutive inclusion in the international scientists' list highlights his continued contributions to breast cancer research, scientific publications and academic mentorship, the press release stated.
