Imphal/Itanagar, Aug 18: Intelligence-based joint operations by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh Police, led to the apprehension of 28 cadres and over-ground workers (OGWs) and the recovery of 58 weapons, explosives and other war-like stores across the two northeastern states between August 7 and 15.

The operations were conducted by formations under the Spear Corps following specific intelligence inputs and covered several districts considered sensitive from a security perspective.
In Manipur, joint teams operated across Imphal East, Kangpokpi, Thoubal, Kakching, Churachandpur and Tamenglong districts. In Arunachal Pradesh, operations were undertaken in Bordumsa and Nampong areas.
The coordinated action involved close cooperation between the Army, Assam Rifles and the respective state police forces. Security personnel conducted targeted operations based on intelligence inputs, resulting in the apprehension of individuals identified by the forces as cadres and OGWs.
The recovery of 58 weapons, explosives and other war-like stores is expected to strengthen ongoing efforts by security agencies to disrupt the logistical and operational networks of armed groups operating in the region.
The operations also underline the importance of intelligence-led coordination among security forces and state police agencies in addressing security challenges across the northeastern region. Sharing of intelligence, coordinated planning and simultaneous action can help security agencies respond more effectively to emerging threats while limiting the movement and activities of armed groups.
Officials have continued to maintain heightened vigilance in vulnerable areas and are undertaking further security measures based on ground intelligence and operational requirements.
The latest operations form part of sustained efforts by security agencies to maintain peace and stability in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh and to prevent the proliferation of illegal arms and explosives.
The successful coordination between the Army, Assam Rifles and state police forces highlights the role of joint intelligence-based operations in strengthening the security architecture across the Northeast.
Further details regarding the identities of those apprehended and the specific nature of the recovered weapons and explosives were not immediately disclosed.
