Srinagar, Sep 24: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on Thursday sought details from Transport Minister Satish Sharma over the use of multiple government vehicles by officers holding additional departmental charges.

The issue came up during proceedings of the ongoing Assembly session, with Rather questioning the rationale behind providing separate vehicles to officers who have been assigned more than one department.

Rather asked why an officer holding an additional charge should require a separate vehicle belonging to that department. The minister described the practice as a “legacy issue” and assured the House that the government would examine the matter and take corrective measures.

The Speaker questioned whether a practice should continue simply because it had existed for years. He also raised concerns over the use of public resources and the deployment of multiple vehicles for officers and their staff.

Rather directed the minister to furnish details before the House during the ongoing session. Sharma assured him that the matter would be examined and complete information would be provided.
