
Srinagar, Oct 4: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir has filed two separate chargesheets against a Kupwara resident in cases involving alleged cheating, forgery, impersonation and fraudulent collection of money from people seeking jobs.
The accused, Abdul Majeed Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir and a resident of Kalaroos Lishtiyal in Kupwara, has been chargesheeted before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, in connection with two separate FIRs.
In the first case, FIR No. 13/2026, investigators alleged that Mir obtained Rs. 2.10 lakh from a person by promising to arrange employment. He allegedly produced a forged appointment letter claiming it had been issued by the Airports Authority of India.
The second case, registered as FIR No. 10/2025, involves allegations that Mir impersonated a Duty Officer attached to the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Investigators alleged that he used the identity to offer government jobs and land at SDA Colony, Bemina, in return for money.
According to the investigation, Mir allegedly collected around Rs. 60 lakh from individuals and provided them with fabricated appointment orders and land-allotment documents.
The cases involve offences related to cheating, impersonation, forgery and the use of forged documents under the applicable provisions of law. The chargesheets have been submitted to the court for further judicial proceedings.
Officials said Mir is also facing 15 other criminal cases registered at different locations across the Kashmir Valley.
Authorities have advised people to verify claims related to government employment, land allotments and other official benefits before making any payments, and to report suspected cases of financial fraud to the appropriate authorities.
