Srinagar, August 25: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against a man accused of allegedly cheating a family by promising to provide medicines for a cancer patient at discounted rates.

According to the Crime Branch, the chargesheet was presented before the Court of Sub-Judge Srinagar against Afaq Ahmad Thug, son of Ghulam Qadir, a resident of New Colony Hazratbal near Shiwala Mandir, Anantnag, currently residing in Sunjwan, Jammu.

The case relates to FIR No. 25/2026 registered under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The EOW said the case originated from a written complaint alleging that the accused had promised to arrange medicines for the complainant’s wife, who was undergoing treatment for cancer, at prices lower than the market rate.

According to the allegations, the complainant was induced to pay lakhs of rupees for the medicines, but the accused allegedly failed to provide them.

The Crime Branch said an investigation was subsequently initiated and the allegations were substantiated during the probe. Investigators also found that the accused and the complainant had been schoolmates at a boarding school more than four decades ago.

Following completion of the investigation, the chargesheet was submitted before the court for judicial determination.

The Crime Branch has meanwhile advised the public to remain cautious of financial frauds and verify claims before making payments. It urged people to report suspicious activities to the SSP, EOW Kashmir.
