EOW Kashmir Arrests Man in Rs 93 Lakh Property Fraud Case
Srinagar, Sep 18: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has arrested a Budgam resident in connection with an alleged Rs 93 lakh land and property fraud case.
The accused, identified as Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Dar, son of Abdul Khaliq Dar of Jawalapora, Samson Budgam, was arrested on the basis of an order and warrant issued by the Court of Sub-Judge, Srinagar, officials said.
According to the EOW, Dar had been evading arrest for nearly a year and is also involved in multiple cases registered at Police Station EOW Kashmir and SCW Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K.
The case pertains to FIR No. 17/2026 registered under Sections 318(4), 338, 340 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Investigators said the case originated from a complaint alleging that the complainant was cheated of Rs 93 lakh in a property transaction involving five kanals of migrant land at Drusu in Pulwama and 300 standing trees in Bijbehara.
The agency alleges that the transactions were carried out through fake agreements and that the land and trees offered for sale did not belong to the persons involved in the purported deal.
According to the investigation, Soom Nath Koul, son of Kalash Nath Koul, who has addresses in Bengaluru and Janipur, Jammu, allegedly posed as an attorney holder of the original property owners, while Dar allegedly signed the agreements as a witness.
The EOW had earlier conducted searches at Semsaan in Budgam in May as part of the investigation. Officials said the searches were conducted to collect documents, evidence and other material related to the alleged fraud.
The agency has alleged that the accused were presenting themselves as owners or authorised attorney holders of migrant properties and inducing people to enter into transactions on the basis of those claims.
The EOW said a hue and cry notice remains in force against co-accused Soom Nath Koul, who is yet to be arrested.
Further investigation into the alleged property transactions and the involvement of other persons is underway.
