Doda, July 30: Doda West MLA Mehraj Malik on Thursday alleged that illegal mining was being carried out along the Doda to Ghat road during the intervening night and accused sections of the police and civil administration of facilitating the activity.

In a post on social media, the legislator claimed that illegal extraction of minerals was taking place around 1 a.m. and alleged that some officials were involved in corruption.

Stating that "laws are only for the poor," Malik questioned the authorities over the alleged illegal mining and called for accountability from the concerned departments.

The allegations have once again brought the issue of illegal mining in the region into focus. Authorities have not yet responded to the claims.
