Delhi Court Allows Dignified Disposal of Remains in Red Fort Blast Case

NIA says forensic analysis is complete and preservation of the remains is no longer required

New Delhi, July 13: A Delhi court has granted permission to the National Investigation Agency, NIA, to dispose of the biological remains recovered from the November 2025 Red Fort car bomb blast, including those of the victims and the alleged mastermind, Dr. Umar Un Nabi from Kashmir, after the agency informed the court that all forensic and investigative examinations had been completed.

The order was issued by the Patiala House Court, which directed the NIA to ensure that the disposal is carried out with dignity and in accordance with the religious customs of the deceased. The court has also instructed the agency to submit a compliance report once the process is completed.

During the proceedings, the NIA told the court that all necessary forensic evidence had already been collected from the remains. It further stated that there was no investigative need to preserve them as decomposition had advanced.

The order pertains to the November 10, 2025 Red Fort blast, in which an explosives laden vehicle exploded near the historic monument in New Delhi, killing 11 people and injuring several others. The incident prompted a nationwide investigation that was later handed over to the NIA.

According to the agency's chargesheet, Dr. Umar Un Nabi, an Assistant Professor from Pulwama in South Kashmir, was identified as the key accused and is believed to have died in the explosion. The NIA has alleged that he was part of a so called white collar module consisting of educated individuals who planned and facilitated the attack. A chargesheet running into nearly 7,500 pages has been filed against multiple accused, while the investigation into the wider conspiracy remains ongoing.

With the latest order, the NIA has been allowed to complete one of the remaining procedural formalities in the case as the trial against the surviving accused continues before the Special Court.
