CUKashmir’s Deptt of Urdu holds curriculum review workshop

Ganderbal, June 11: Department of Urdu, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), organized a two-day syllabus review and curriculum development Workshop on 9–10 June 2026 to review and revise the existing curriculum and develop the syllabus for the newly introduced One-Year Postgraduate Programme in Urdu.

The meeting was chaired by Prof. Sandhya Tiwari, Dean, School of Languages, and attended by faculty members Dr. Mohammad Rashid Azeez, Dr. Altaf Hussain, along with five research scholars representing the Students’ Union Council. External experts Prof. Arifa Bushra, former HoD Urdu, University of Kashmir, and Prof. Altaf Anjum, Director, Centre for Distance and Online Education, University of Kashmir were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sandhya Tiwari appreciated the efforts of the Urdu Department in undertaking the syllabus review exercise within a short span of time. She hailed Dr. Nusrat Jabeen for successfully organizing the workshop and completing the syllabus revision process within just one month of assuming the charge as HoD. The Dean noted that this initiative reflected the Department's commitment to academic excellence and continuous curriculum development. She shared valuable suggestions and recommendations for the further enhancement of the Department’s academic programmes and stressed the inclusion of Skill Education, Women-Centric Literature, and Ecocriticism in the syllabus of the newly introduced One-Year PG Programme to ensure its relevance to contemporary academic and societal needs. Prof. Sandhya Tiwari emphasized the need to engage the faculty members as research supervisors for postgraduate students during the third semester itself so that they can initiate their research work in a timely and systematic manner. Prof. Sandhya Tiwari called upon the aspiring students from across the country to seize the admission opportunities offered by the CUKashmir. “The admissions for CUKashmir's postgraduate programmes for the academic session 2026–27 is going on and the aspirants should avail the opportunity,” she added.

Earlier, in her address, Dr. Nusrat Jabeen, HoD Urdu Department, emphasized the importance of regular curriculum review in maintaining academic quality and ensuring that academic programmes remain aligned with the evolving needs of students and contemporary developments in the discipline. She said that during the workshop, participants engaged in detailed discussions on various aspects of the curriculum to make it in alignment with NEP-2020. “The existing syllabus was carefully reviewed, and several suggestions were put forward to enhance its academic relevance, structure, and effectiveness. The participants examined course content, learning objectives and outcomes, to ensure that it meets contemporary academic standards and addresses the needs of learners. A major outcome of the workshop was the preparation of the syllabus for the One-Year PG Programme in Urdu.”
