Ganderbal, Sep 19: The Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) organised an expert lecture titled “Igniting Minds, Empowering Bharat: The True Power of Education” as part of its ongoing 100-day capacity-building and faculty induction programme for newly appointed teachers at its Tulmulla campus on Friday.
The programme was convened by Prof. Sandhya, Coordinator of the induction programme, and attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, senior officers, faculty members and participants.
Welcoming the keynote speaker, Shri B. R. Shankaranand, Akhil Bharatiya Sangathan Mantri, Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, Prof. Sandhya highlighted the pivotal role of teachers and educational institutions in shaping India's educational aspirations. She stressed the importance of integrating Indian traditions, values and pedagogical approaches into contemporary education.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Ravinder Nath said CUKashmir was working to build an academic ecosystem responsive to changing national and global educational needs. He highlighted the University's initiatives under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, including academic flexibility, learner-centred education, competency-based learning, skill development, innovation, design thinking and the promotion of Indian Knowledge Systems.
He emphasised the need to empower young people through education while creating an environment that encourages creativity, inquiry, innovation and responsible citizenship.
Delivering the keynote address, Shankaranand called upon teachers to dream, work with dedication and make sustained efforts to translate their aspirations into reality.
He said the role of a teacher extends beyond delivering information or completing the syllabus, urging educators to create opportunities for the growth and empowerment of others. He also emphasised that teachers must remain lifelong learners and ensure that learning ultimately contributes to society.
Shankaranand highlighted the relevance of yoga in contemporary education and suggested its integration into the academic environment of CUKashmir to promote physical well-being, mental peace and holistic development among students, scholars and faculty.
The session was moderated by Dean, School of Business Studies, Prof. Syed Zahoor Ahmad Geelani, who also proposed the vote of thanks.
