Assam Rifles, police seize arms cache in Kakching

Kakching, Aug 17: The Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with Manipur Police, recovered a major cache of arms and ammunition from Arong Nongmaikhong in Kakching district on August 14, 2026, in a significant boost to ongoing efforts to counter insurgent activities in the region.

Acting on specific inputs, the security forces launched a joint search operation in the area and recovered nine firearms, 29 magazines and 2,156 rounds of live ammunition, along with other weapon accessories.
The recovery represents a substantial seizure of potentially lethal weapons and ammunition and is expected to disrupt efforts to maintain or expand illegal arms networks operating in the area.
The operation also highlights the importance of coordinated action between the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in identifying and neutralising threats to peace and security.
