Army extends flood relief to Assam

August 20, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Sivasagar, Aug 19: Stepping up humanitarian assistance in flood-affected areas of Assam, formations under Spear Corps, in collaboration with local NCC cadets and NGOs, conducted a three-day Mega Medical and Veterinary Camp in Sivasagar district from August 16 to 18.

The camp was organised across Barhoiting, Chintamoni Ghar and Nimaijan, providing critical healthcare and veterinary assistance to communities affected by flooding.
A total of 931 civilians received medical consultations, health screening and free medicines during the camp. The initiative also extended support to the livestock-dependent population, with veterinary teams providing care to 330 flood-affected animals.
The medical outreach focused on addressing immediate healthcare needs in areas where flooding and disruption of normal services can make access to medical facilities particularly difficult. Free medicines and screening services helped residents receive timely attention for ailments and health concerns arising in the aftermath of the floods.
The veterinary component was equally significant, particularly for families whose livelihoods depend on cattle and other livestock. Treatment and health assessment of affected animals helped protect both livestock and the economic security of vulnerable households.
The joint participation of Army personnel, NCC cadets and NGOs strengthened the outreach and enabled the teams to reach communities in affected locations.
The initiative reflects the Indian Army’s continued role in disaster response, humanitarian assistance and community welfare, particularly during natural calamities. Beyond immediate relief, such efforts help restore confidence among affected communities and provide essential support until normal services resume.
The three-day camp also highlighted the importance of coordinated disaster response, bringing together security forces, volunteers and civil-society organisations to address both human and animal welfare needs.
Through the initiative, the Army reiterated its commitment to standing alongside communities during emergencies and extending timely assistance to those affected by natural disasters.
