The Lok Sabha Secretariat, through an official notification issued on Thursday, stated that Mehdi's resignation would be effective from November 3, 2026, the date on which he had publicly announced his decision to quit.
The decision was published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3(ii), under notification number S.O. 6067(E).
With the formal acceptance of his resignation, the Srinagar parliamentary constituency is now without representation in the Lok Sabha.
