
Srinagar, Aug 17: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a chargesheet against 10 persons, including seven officials of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), for allegedly facilitating illegal and unauthorised construction in Batamaloo.
The chargesheet in FIR No. 06/2023, registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar, was filed before the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Srinagar. The accused include seven SMC officials and three private individuals.
According to the ACB, the case relates to alleged abuse of official position, criminal conspiracy and extending undue benefits to private beneficiaries in connection with unauthorised construction in Ward No. 28, near Tiny Hearts School.
The case was registered following allegations that officials posted in the ward had allegedly misused their official positions and acted in connivance with beneficiary Reyaz Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rahim Dar of Tengpora, Batamaloo, to facilitate the construction.
The ACB said its investigation, based on oral and documentary evidence, substantiated the allegations against the accused public servants and private beneficiaries.
The offences have been booked under relevant provisions of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), Revenue Department Act and the Evacuees (Administration of Property) Act.
After obtaining the requisite government sanction for prosecution of the public servants, the ACB presented the chargesheet before the Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, for judicial determination
