The valley of Kashmir has always scripted stories of courage and determination, and a new name is now emerging in those stories — Zoya Wani, the daughter of Delina, Baramulla.
In official documents her name is Saima Akhter, but on the sports grounds and in the hearts of the people, the name that echoes is Zoya Wani. Zoya has created this name herself, earned it herself. Today no one knows her as Saima, everyone knows her as Zoya Wani and she is proud of it.

Passion for Sports

Zoya was born on 28th February 1997. Her schooling was completed in Delina. Since her school days, she has been active in every field, be it Independence Day or Republic Day. Her first sport was Kho-Kho*, in which she was selected twice for the Nationals. Later, in Higher Secondary, she became the Captain of the Volleyball Team.
The journey from struggle to success was not easy. In the very first year at Govt. Women's College Baramulla, she was selected for the Inter-University National (Shimla), then in 2016 she represented Baramulla at the State Level, then Junior and Senior State at M.A. Stadium Jammu. After that, she was taken to Punjab as a Coach with the National Shooting Ball Team
Road Race, Trekking, Tug of War, Table Tennis, Cricket — she secured first position in every sport and still holds all the certificates.
After completing B.Com, she got selected with good marks for B.P.Ed in Ganderbal, but during that time her respected father Mr. Ghulam Mohammad Wanipassed away suddenly due to a brain stroke. Her mother was already ill and her father was her backbone, so she had to put her career on hold.

An Identity Created by Herself

Zoya did not lose courage and raised two teams on her own:

Glorious Inferno (Volleyball)
Kashmir Knights (Cricket)

Alhamdulillah, both teams became very successful and are still running. Because of this success, today Zoya is invited as a Guest of Honour in every major event. Recently, she was also honoured in the South Kashmir Women's Cricket Exhibition Match.

A Message for the Young Generation

Zoya Wani is today an example for thousands of girls in Delina and Baramulla. She is a living example that if the intention is pure and hard work is sincere, a girl can make her name on her own strength.
We are proud that the soil of our Baramulla has produced another star. We pray that Zoya Wani will bring glory to Kashmir across India in the coming times.
