Women’s cycling championship held

Srinagar, June 13: Srinagar, June 13: The Cycling Association of Jammu & Kashmir (CAJK), under the aegis of FIT India and as part of the nationwide ASMITA (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action) initiative, successfully organised the ASMITA Srinagar Women League – Junior/Women Elite Road Cycling Championship 2026 at Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Hawal, Srinagar.

The championship commenced at 6:00 AM and witnessed enthusiastic participation from female cyclists representing various districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The Principal of Islamia College of Science and Commerce attended as the Chief Guest and distributed medals and certificates among the winners and participants. Guests of Honour included Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, Vice President of CAJK, SSP Rashiq Mir and SSP Faheem Ali.
Held under the theme “Empowered Women, Stronger Nation” and carrying the message “Ride Strong, Ride to Inspire,” the event highlighted the association’s commitment to women’s empowerment through sports, promotion of cycling as a fitness activity, and encouragement of environmentally sustainable practices.
In the Under-19 Girls category, Yumna Parvaiz secured first place, followed by Zoobiya Tariq in second and Fazilah Wani in third. In the Under-17 Girls category, Fabiha, Muntaiha and Khatija claimed the top three positions. In the Under-14 Girls category, Mysha Irfan, Minan Mehraj and Rabiya Fayaz secured first, second and third places, respectively. In the Junior category, Zehra Farooq, Khatija Mushtaq and Aiyra Fatima finished among the top three.
The championship concluded with a prize distribution ceremony and a renewed commitment by the Cycling Association of Jammu & Kashmir to strengthen women’s sports and promote cycling culture across the Union Territory. The overwhelming participation of students, athletes, coaches, dignitaries and guests reflected the growing popularity of cycling among young girls and the collective resolve to advance women’s sports in Jammu and Kashmir.
