When My Higher Qualification Becomes Burden for Me!

Painful Voice

Let me start this brief write up with a very famous Kashmiri saying that we usually use while facing any awkward situations in our life that is “Anem Sue Wawim Sue lagim Sue Panas” – means I brought a noxious seeds, sowed it and then a time came in my life when I became the victim of it. The same kind of situation happened with the higher academic and professional qualification certificates of my friend Tariq (name changed) when he came to know that the recruiting agencies have amended recruiting rules. No weightage is given to higher qualifications. According to that new rules, only lower qualifications can apply for a particular post. These new rules put him in a deep dilemma whether to mention his higher qualification in the application form or not. As there is a clear cut instruction that only the candidates with lower qualifications can apply. As he is on the verge of an overage limit set by the government against various posts, he had no option but to submit his job application form without mentioning the higher academic qualification which he attained after investing five years of his precious life and the hard-earned money of his father.
“Usually, a candidate is very much excited when submitting any job application form but my feeling was different. The day, I submitted the form was not a happy occasion for me, I also mentioned that day in my dairy giving title as “The Darkest Day of My Life”. Even, if I will be selected for the post, I will not enjoy it. Yes, it is my unpleasant experiences that I have faced in the private sector; my immediate social and economic needs that compelled me to apply for that fourth class post. It gives a sense of feeling that these progress cards/ certificates become like an unwanted grass in the garden. I had never thought of such a situation where my academic achievements become a hindrance for me in achieving my goals. These degree certificates now become just as the piece of papers.” He said,
As a matter of argument, let us assume that the boy got selected against any IV- class post. What will be his future approach and attitude towards that particular job? What will be his reaction when he will have to work with the same category of people who left their schooling in the middle because of their poor academic achievements? What will be his performance on the ground? These aforementioned questions raised a big question mark on our overall system that left our youth in a deep dilemma.
Let the policymakers must review the rules and try to overhaul the whole system which is presently in a total mess. On the one hand, the government is spending a huge amount of money in higher education; building more and higher learning institutions or research centers, motivating young youth to avail higher education, do more research work, providing them scholarships but on the other hand, these well-qualified youth are forced to do such jobs which don’t suit with their academic talent and personality. As a result, which, these youths who are considered to be the most important assets for any nation indulge in wrong deeds, and in some cases, it has been seen that they either lose their mental balance or commit suicide. This emerging cynicism is no way good for any group or nation. Let us have a deliberation on this issue and try to provide an amicable and sustainable solution to such problems once for all. As well said by Dhirubhai Ambani, “ Give the youth a proper environment. Motivate them. Extend them the support they need. Each one of them has infinite source of energy”.
