Srinagar, Sep 1: Several areas of Srinagar are facing a growing water shortage, leaving residents struggling for regular and adequate drinking-water supplies and prompting concerns over the reliability of the city’s water distribution system.

Residents in affected localities said intermittent supply and low water pressure have made it difficult for households to meet their daily needs. The situation has reportedly added to the hardships of families, particularly during peak consumption hours, with many forced to depend on stored water or seek alternative arrangements.
The disruption has also raised concerns about sanitation and public health, as inadequate water availability can affect household hygiene and other essential activities. Residents have urged the authorities to ensure equitable distribution and restore normal supply at the earliest.
The crisis has once again highlighted the pressure on Srinagar’s ageing and expanding water-supply infrastructure. Rapid urbanisation, rising population, seasonal fluctuations in water availability and distribution-related problems can collectively strain the existing system.
Residents have called for immediate measures, including increased water supply to badly affected areas, deployment of tankers wherever necessary and regular monitoring of distribution networks to prevent prolonged shortages.
They also appealed to the concerned departments to identify the reasons behind the disruption and undertake necessary repairs and maintenance instead of relying solely on temporary arrangements.
For a city that continues to expand, ensuring uninterrupted access to safe drinking water remains a basic civic responsibility. Residents said the administration must adopt both immediate relief measures and long-term solutions to prevent such shortages from becoming a recurring feature.
With public demand for reliable civic services increasing, the latest water crisis has underscored the need for stronger infrastructure, better distribution management and timely response mechanisms across Srinagar.
