
Srinagar, Oct 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, under the chairpersonship of Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, has decided to constitute a Core Committee of Muftis, Imams and Khateebs to identify and finalise common themes for Friday (Juma) sermons across shrines, Jamia Masjids and other religious institutions affiliated with the Board.
The decision was taken at a meeting of Maulanas, Muftis, Imams and Khateebs held at the Waqf Board’s Central Office in Sonwar, Srinagar, on Saturday. Board members Dr Ghulam Haleem and Syed Mohammad Hussain Haqani attended the meeting, while religious representatives associated with institutions across the Jammu Division participated through video conferencing.
During the deliberations, participants stressed the importance of coordination among religious scholars and consistency in the themes addressed during Friday sermons across Waqf-associated institutions.
It was decided that the proposed Core Committee would finalise sermon topics in advance and communicate them to the concerned religious scholars for implementation. The themes will focus on religious awareness, moral values, social harmony, unity and other matters of public and community interest in accordance with Islamic teachings.
Addressing the meeting, Dr Andrabi emphasised the need for collective efforts and effective coordination among religious scholars to ensure that Friday sermons convey constructive and meaningful messages to the public. She underlined the importance of using religious platforms to encourage moral responsibility, unity and harmony in society.
Prominent scholars from Kashmir and Jammu participated in the meeting, including Moulana Abdul Rashid Dawoodi of Kaba Marg, Anantnag; Moulana Riyaz Ul Haq Noorabadi of Asari Sharief, Dargah Hazratbal; Moulana Amir Ud Din Shah, Mirwaiz of Charar-i-Sharief; Moulana Abdul Hamid Nayeemi, Imam-o-Khateeb of Zaldagar; Moulana Peer Hessain Qadri of Jamia Masjid Sonwar; and Moulana Syed Mudassir Geelani of Dastigeer Sahib (RA), Khanyar.
Representatives from Jammu Division included Moulana Farooq Naqshbandi of Jamia Masjid Umar, Rail Head, Jammu; Mufti Inayatullah Qasmi of Jamia Masjid Talab Khatikan; Mufti Manzoor Ahmed of Jamia Masjid Sunjwan; Moulana Syed Ahmed of Jamia Masjid Malik Market; Mufti Mohammad Ashraf Misbahi of Jamia Masjid Reasi; Moulana Farooq Misbahi of Jamia Masjid Poonch; Moulana Farooq Naqshbandi of Jamia Masjid Eidgah, Rajouri; Moulana Ghulam Mohiuddin of Jamia Masjid Kot Ranka, Rajouri; and Moulana Ghulam Rasool of Jamia Masjid City, Rajouri, besides other religious scholars from various districts.
