November 05, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Itanagar, Nov 4: The Indian Army organised a series of commemorative events across Arunachal Pradesh on November 3 as part of the 64th Walong Day celebrations, paying tribute to the courage and sacrifice of soldiers who fought in the historic Battle of Walong during the 1962 India-China War.

The events brought together civilians, cycling and motorcycle enthusiasts, and National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets, highlighting the Army's efforts to preserve the legacy of the battle while strengthening military-civil relations and promoting national integration.
A major highlight was the flagging-off of the fourth Walong Cycling Expedition, which saw the participation of more than 100 cyclists. The four-day expedition will cover the route from Namsai to Namti, taking participants through the region associated with the historic battle.
A motorcycle expedition was also flagged off from Lekhapani to Walong, offering riders an opportunity to connect with the region's military history and pay homage to the soldiers who defended the country's eastern frontier under challenging conditions.
Another key event was the battlefield trek from Tilam to Namti, which witnessed participation from civilians and NCC cadets. The trek provided an opportunity for participants to experience the historic battlefield terrain and reflect on the extraordinary courage, endurance and sacrifice displayed by Indian soldiers.
The Battle of Walong holds a significant place in India's military history. During the 1962 conflict, Indian troops displayed exceptional bravery while defending the strategically important Walong sector against a numerically superior Chinese force. Their resistance remains a lasting symbol of courage, determination and patriotism.
Through these commemorative initiatives, the Indian Army seeks to connect younger generations with the country's military heritage and honour the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives in the service of the nation.
The celebrations also underline the importance of public participation in preserving historical memory, fostering national pride and strengthening the bond between the armed forces and local communities
