
Samba, June 3: The Samba Cricket Premier League (SCPL) U-19 Tournament, being organized under the 100 Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, commenced today here at Kehli Ground.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha during his visit to the District.
The tournament has been organised under the overall supervision and guidance of Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Sudan to promote sports among youth and reinforcing the message of a drug-free society.
On the opening day of the tournament, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Singh visited the venue and interacted with the participating players. He encouraged the young cricketers to pursue sports with dedication and discipline. He highlighted the role of sports in promoting a healthy and drug-free society. The ADC also conducted the toss before the commencement of the match and extended his best wishes to both teams.
The first league match of the tournament was played between Purmandal Panthers and Samba Fighters. Batting first, Purmandal Panthers scored 158 runs in 20 overs. In response, Samba Fighters managed 131/7 in their allotted 20 overs, with Purmandal Panthers securing a 27-run victory.
Bansh Sharma of Purmandal Panthers was declared the Player of the Match for his impressive bowling performance, claiming 3 wickets for 23 runs in 4 overs.
Among others present on the occasion were ACR Ajay Bharti, officers from various departments, representatives of the organizing Committee, sports enthusiasts and local residents.
