Tinsukia, Sep 7: Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a formation of the Indian Army’s Spear Corps, in close coordination with Assam Police, apprehended two suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of the NSCN(IM) in Tinsukia district of Assam.

According to security officials, the joint operation was launched on the basis of actionable intelligence regarding the activities of individuals allegedly linked to the insurgent outfit. The coordinated action resulted in the apprehension of two persons suspected of functioning as OGWs for NSCN(IM).
The apprehended individuals were allegedly involved in providing crucial support to insurgent cadres, including recruitment, logistics, movement and communication facilitation.
Security agencies believe that such support networks play an important role in sustaining the activities of insurgent groups by providing assistance outside their formal armed structure. Disrupting these networks is therefore considered vital to weakening the operational capabilities of insurgent organisations.
The operation highlights the importance of intelligence-sharing and close coordination between the Army and state police in tackling insurgency-related activities. The joint effort enabled security forces to identify and apprehend individuals allegedly facilitating the movement and communication of insurgent cadres.
The apprehension is being viewed as a setback to the local support network associated with NSCN(IM) and is expected to assist security agencies in further investigations into the outfit’s activities and support infrastructure in the region.
The operation also underscores the continued vigilance maintained by security forces in Assam and neighbouring areas to prevent insurgent groups from strengthening their networks.
