Traffic drive launched around SMHS hospital to ease congestion

May 15, 2026 | BK News Service

Srinagar, May 14: In view of increasing patient and attendant rush at SMHS Hospital, Srinagar Traffic Police on Thursday launched a special drive to streamline vehicular movement and reduce congestion around the hospital premises.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Srinagar, Ajaz Bhat, conducted an on-ground inspection in the area and reviewed traffic management measures around the hospital.
Officials said the drive focused on removing illegally parked vehicles, improving circulation of traffic, and ensuring hassle-free movement for ambulances and emergency vehicles near the healthcare facility.
During the inspection, traffic personnel were directed to remain deployed at key points around the hospital to regulate movement and assist commuters and patients.
The area around SMHS Hospital frequently witnesses heavy congestion due to increasing patient inflow, roadside parking, and commercial activity, often affecting emergency movement during peak hours.
SSP Traffic Ajaz Bhat appealed to commuters, visitors, and shopkeepers to cooperate with traffic authorities by adhering to parking rules and avoiding unnecessary stoppages near emergency entry points.
He also advised the public to use designated parking spaces to help maintain smoother traffic flow around the hospital zone.
Officials said the traffic regulation measures would continue to ensure better accessibility for emergency services and reduce inconvenience to patients visiting the hospital.
