Tourism licences mandatory in J&K

February 04, 2026 | BK News Service

Srinagar, Feb 3: The Jammu and Kashmir government has mandated that all tourism stakeholders—including hoteliers, houseboat owners, shikarawalas, travel operators, and allied service providers—obtain registration or renew licences under the JK Registration of Tourist Trade Act, along with multiple NOCs from relevant departments.

The requirement, disclosed in a written reply to MLA Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed Pardesi in the Legislative Assembly, applies to hotels, guest houses, and houseboats, which must also secure approvals from the Pollution Control Committee/Board, Fire and Emergency Services, and the Building Permission Issuing Authority.
Currently, the registration and renewal process is conducted online via the Tourism Department portal. The government is considering integration with the Single Window System to streamline NOC issuance across departments in a time-bound manner.
Regarding financial losses faced by tourism stakeholders in 2025, the government confirmed that no formal assessment has been carried out, leaving questions on support measures unaddressed.
