Summer vacation extended till July 26

July 22, 2026 | Mohammad Danish

Srinagar, July 21: The government on Tuesday extended the ongoing summer vacation for all Government and recognised private schools across the Union Territory till July 26.

Education Minister Sakina Itoo said the decision to extend the summer vacations was taken after reviewing the prevailing weather conditions, with the safety and well-being of students, teachers and their families being the Government's foremost priority.
With the announcement, all Government and recognised private schools across Jammu and Kashmir will remain closed till July 26 and reopen on Monday (July 27).
Itoo said the extension, which was earlier announced for schools in Kashmir and winter Zones of Jammu Division, will now also apply to all schools in the Summer Zones of Jammu Division.
The schools in Valley were earlier scheduled to reopen on July 20, but the government extended vacation till July 22.
The extension comes as the Meteorological Department has predicted a spell of widespread rain across Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days, raising the possibility of heavy rainfall, flash floods, landslides and waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
The minister appealed to the public to remain alert and strictly follow weather advisories and safety guidelines issued by the concerned authorities, wishing everyone good health and safety amid the continuing spell of adverse weather.
