STC on recent advances in extractive metallurgy starts at NIT

A five-day Short-Term Course on 'Recent Advances in Extractive Metallurgy' commenced on Tuesday at Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar in collaboration with Dhattu Mittra Club.
Director NIT Srinagar Prof. A. Ravinder Nath is the Chief Patron, Registrar and Head of Department Prof. Atikur Rahman as Patron, Dean of Planning and Development Dr. Yashwant Mehta as Chairman and Prof. GS Gupta from IISc Banglore was the Chief Guest for the event.
Dr. Anshul Gupta and Dr. Nitika Kundan are the conveners. Dr.Aravi Muzaffar, Dr. Srinibash Mishra, Dr. Pravn Katiyar, Dr. Irfan Wani are the coordinators of the Course.
The resource persons for the course include esteemed experts including Prof. G.G. Roy from IIT Kharagpur, Prof. G.S. Gupta from IISc Bangalore, Prof. A.K. Singh from IIT Kanpur, Dr. Chenna Rao Borra from IIT Kharagpur, Dr. Ashok Kamaraj from IIT Hyderabad, Dr. Srishilan C from IIT Jammu, Dr. Nikhil Dhawan from IIT Roorkee, Dr. Snigdha Ghosh from IIT Bhubaneswar, and Dr. Kali Sanjay from IMMT Bhubaneswar.
In his message, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, extended his best wishes to all participants and commended the organizers for organizing this five-day Short-Term Course.
IProf. GS Gupta from IISc Bangalore was Chief Guest for the inaugural session. He said such STC's are the need of the hour and it is aimed to bridge the gap between academia and industry for a collective pursuit of excellence.
On the occasion, Registrar and HoD MME, Prof. Atikur Rahman said that five-day Short-Term Course is designed to offer a comprehensive overview of the latest advancements in extractive metallurgy, with a particular focus on developments in Indian industry and academia, as well as globally.
"Steel, power, and construction are crucial sectors for the development of any modern economy and are considered the backbone of human civilization," he said.
Chairman of the workshop, Dr. Yashwant Mehta said that the steel industry derives its demand from key sectors such as infrastructure, power, aviation, engineering, construction, and the automobile industry, among others.
"Due to its deep integration with these crucial industries, the steel sector is considered strategic for both governments and the overall economy, he said.
Earlier in her welcome address, Dr. Nitika Kundansaid NIT Srinagar aims to graduate technically skilled and broadly talented engineers, future innovators, and entrepreneurs who understand the needs and challenges of the industry, society, state, and nation," she said.
A formal vote of thanks was delivered by STC Convener Dr. Anshul Gupta to the resource persons, students, and scholars for their contributions to the program's success.
He also thanked the NIT Srinagar administration for their support in organizing such STC on the campus.
