May 08, 2026 | Shugufta Rashid

Srinagar, May 7: Traffic regulation and management in Srinagar city has shown noticeable improvement in recent weeks under the supervision of SSP Traffic Aijaz Bhat, with commuters reporting smoother movement across key city routes due to strengthened enforcement and systematic planning.

Authorities have implemented a series of traffic diversions, barricading measures, and real-time monitoring mechanisms at major congestion points, aimed at reducing bottlenecks and ensuring hassle-free vehicular movement during peak hours.
Officials said that the traffic police have intensified on-ground deployment at vital junctions, especially during morning and evening rush hours. Diversion plans have been introduced at key intersections to streamline movement and prevent long queues of vehicles in busy commercial and residential areas.
SSP Traffic Aijaz Bhat has been personally monitoring traffic arrangements and issuing directions for strict adherence to lane discipline, regulated parking, and removal of unauthorized roadside obstructions contributing to congestion.
Commuters across Srinagar have welcomed the improved situation, stating that travel time has reduced significantly on several busy stretches. Many locals appreciated the visible presence of traffic personnel and better coordination in managing flow at critical points.
“The traffic situation has improved compared to earlier. Diversions and proper barricading have made movement smoother, especially during office hours,” said a local commuter.
Traffic officials said that the focus remains on sustained enforcement, public awareness regarding traffic rules, and continuous assessment of choke points to ensure long-term improvements in city mobility.
Authorities have also urged commuters to cooperate with traffic personnel and follow designated routes to maintain smooth flow and avoid unnecessary delays.
The Traffic Department reiterated its commitment to further improving road discipline and ensuring a safer, more efficient commuting experience for residents of Srinagar.
