
Srinagar, Mar 8: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar today observed International Women’s Day at the District Court Complex Srinagar under the guidance of Haq Nawaz Zargar, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (Pr. District & Sessions Judge).
The programme commenced with the screening of a short video highlighting that every woman carries immense responsibilities in society, whether she is a working professional or a homemaker. The video beautifully depicted the invaluable role played by women in balancing multiple responsibilities and contributing significantly to family and society.
In this regard, a programme was organized at the Conference Hall, District Court Complex Srinagar, which was attended by the Ld. Judicial Officers.
On the occasion, Chairman, DLSA Srinagar deliberated upon the significance of recent judgments of the Supreme Court of India recognizing the concept of notional income of homemakers, observing that the invaluable contribution of women in managing households and caregiving deserves due legal recognition.
While highlighting the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, “Give to Gain,” he emphasized that societies progress when equal opportunities, respect and support are extended to women. He stated that by giving women their rightful place, dignity and opportunities, society ultimately gains stronger families, progressive communities and a more just social order. He further stressed the importance of promoting gender equality, dignity and empowerment of women in all spheres of life.
Kusoom Lata Pandita, Additional District Judge (Bank Cases), Srinagar, in her address emphasized the vital role of women in shaping a progressive and equitable society. She highlighted that the judiciary has consistently played a pivotal role in safeguarding the rights and dignity of women through progressive interpretation of laws and stressed that empowering women through legal awareness and education is essential for ensuring justice and equality in society.
Meanwhile, another programme was conducted at the ADR Centre, District Legal Services Authority Srinagar, wherein the Secretary, DLSA Srinagar addressed the staff members, Legal Aid Defence Counsels and Para Legal Volunteers. She emphasized the importance of creating legal awareness among women, strengthening access to justice and ensuring effective implementation of legal aid schemes aimed at safeguarding the rights and dignity of women.
The programmes concluded with a collective reaffirmation of the commitment of the Legal Services Institution towards promoting women’s rights, legal awareness and equal access to justice.
