
Srinagar, April 9: The Jammu Division of Northern Railway has achieved another milestone by successfully operating a special train number 04689/04690 (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra – Banihal – Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra) between Katra and Banihal today. Through this special train service, more than 1,000 passengers completed their journey, strengthening rail connectivity in the region.
This special service was introduced to provide better connectivity between Kashmir and Katra after road traffic was disrupted due to heavy rainfall. Departing from Katra, the train witnessed enthusiastic participation from both local residents and a large number of tourists. Passengers appreciated the initiative taken by the Jammu Division and enjoyed their journey.
According to the railway administration, the objective of this successful operation is to ensure safe and fast transportation between difficult terrains. Strict arrangements for security and passenger amenities were made at stations to avoid any inconvenience. Depending on demand and circumstances, the operation of this train may be extended in the future.
Due to continuous heavy rainfall and landslides in the region, road traffic on National Highway (NH-44) has been disrupted. Considering the difficulties faced by passengers—especially pilgrims visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi and local residents—the रेलवे decided to run a special train between Katra and Banihal. The main objective is to provide a safe and convenient travel option for stranded passengers. On its first day, more than 1,000 passengers traveled and appreciated this special train service.
The Railway will also operate this special unreserved train between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Banihal on April 10 to provide relief to more passengers.
Passengers are requested to make maximum use of this special train service.
