Spear Corps marks world lung Cancer Day

New Delhi, Aug 2: Marking World Lung Cancer Day, formations under the Spear Corps organised a series of awareness programmes across Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur to educate people about the dangers of tobacco use and promote healthy living.
As part of the initiative, the Assam Rifles conducted awareness programmes at Peletkie Village in Nagaland and Imphal West district in Manipur, while the Spearhead Division organised an anti-smoking awareness lecture and a drawing competition for children at Manigong in Arunachal Pradesh.
The programmes witnessed enthusiastic participation from villagers, students, youth and local residents, who were sensitised to the harmful effects of tobacco consumption, the importance of preventive healthcare and the need to adopt healthier lifestyles.
Interactive sessions and awareness lectures highlighted the link between tobacco use and lung cancer, while encouraging participants to stay away from smoking and other forms of tobacco consumption. The drawing competition engaged children in spreading awareness through creative expression and reinforced the message of a tobacco-free future.
Officials said the initiative aimed to strengthen public awareness on lung cancer prevention and inspire communities to make informed health choices. The campaign also underscored the importance of collective action in reducing tobacco use and promoting healthier, safer communities.
The awareness drive concluded with a pledge by participants to support efforts towards building a tobacco-free society and encouraging healthier lifestyles across the region.
